Volkswagen T-Cross gets new range-topping 1.5-litre petrol engine

New Volkswagen T-Cross

With a reasonable starting price of £24,910, the All-New T -Cross SUV 1.5-litre petrol engine will be more powerful and produce 148bhp, offering a seven-speed automatic gearbox only.

If the T-Cross wasn’t already a great choice for an SUV the Volkswagen T-Cross is now going to be available with a new turbocharged 148bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine. This is not the first addition to the T-Cross range, with Volkswagen already also adding a 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine to the range. Both are available to purchase now. With a price starting from just £24,910 in the SEL trim, with a slight increase for the flagship R-line model which starts from £26,810.

This range was already one of the best in terms of SUV’s but now with the added new turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI unit it offers, it’s drivers an even better driving experience with front-wheel-drive and modern seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It has become the top of the range and has the most powerful engine in the whole of the T-Cross line-up. The new powertrain has been claimed to give the T-Cross a 0-62 mph time of only 8.5 seconds and a brilliant top speed of 124 mph. It’s one of the best SUV’s that are on sale today.

Even though the new T-Cross range now has the most powerful engine in the range, it definitely doesn’t disappoint when it comes to efficiency. Maybe, surprisingly, the new T-Cross 1.5-litre petrol engine offers decent efficiency with a claimed fuel economy of up to 44.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 119g/km. You can compare this to the less powerful 113 bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine, which has a fuel economy of up to 44.8mpg and 114g/km of CO2. However, both of these models still fall short of the most frugal 1.6-litre diesel engine, which Volkswagen claims the fuel economy of 52.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 140g/km. This isn’t surprising though as the diesel options always tend to be better on fuel economy, often leading to a higher price.

If you like what you have heard about the latest upgrade to the T-Cross you will need to choose one of the two highest trim levels in the T-Cross range. You can only have the 1.5-litre petrol engine by choosing one of these options. The SEL spec cars feature modern and luxury items such as 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, Climate control, front and rear parking sensors, sat-nav and much more. The top of the range R-Line model has a much sportier exterior styling which boasts 18 -inch alloy wheels and a top of the range 10.25-inch digital dial cluster

Volkswagen has done extremely well to introduce the new 1.5-litre petrol engine in addition to the 1.6-litre diesel option, giving their customers more choice with added features.
