Volkswagen T-Cross Scores Five Stars in Euro NCAP Safety Test

Volkswagen have built their brand on reliability. Customers who regularly buy Volkswagen vehicles often do so because they have come to expect a certain standard of consistency, reliability and safety. Of course, Volkswagen has never been one to sacrifice performance for dependability, which is why the manufacturer appeals to such a broad range of customers of all ages and from all walks of life.

Whatever you’re looking for in a vehicle, there’s bound to be something in the Volkswagen family that ticks all the right boxes for you. But perhaps it’s the most recent addition to the family that’s both generating excitement within the brand and the industry, while cementing Volkswagen’s reputation for safety and reliability. We’re talking, of course, about the new T-Cross.

The VW T-Cross impresses in Euro NCAP safety testing

The T-Cross, Volkswagen’s new diminutive yet mighty SUV, scored a coup for the brand by earning an impressive 5 stars in its Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) safety test.

This rating goes a long way towards demonstrating Volkswagen’s commitment to safety while generating fresh buzz about the brand’s newest crossover SUV.

Why the Euro NCAP safety rating matters

A 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating is not easily earned. For the past 20 years the independent tester has provided a stringent benchmark for the safety standards of new vehicles in the European market. Testing applies not only to safety systems but for driver assist systems, too.

Over the years, rather than relaxing their standards, the test procedures have grown increasingly comprehensive stringent over the past years including a wide range of different collision scenarios. Included in these stringent tests are;

• A front-end collision with an aluminium barrier at 64 km/h and a 40 percent overlap.
• A side-on collision at 50 km/h into the vehicle’s lateral structure.
• A lateral pole collision at 32 km/h.

The T-Cross earned impressive scores on all tests, scoring a compliance rating of 97 percent in the “Adult occupant protection” category and a child safety rating of 86 percent. This demonstrates quite eloquently that the T-Cross can compete with much bigger SUVs when it comes to keeping drivers and their families safe?

So, what is it about the T-Cross that has so impressed the good folks conducting the Euro NCAP safety tests? If you’re unfamiliar with the compact new SUV now’s the perfect time to get to know it a little better.
